This was my first Some Assembly Required: Public show, also my first real performance with Attack Theatre. I definitely thought it was going to rain that day and I was pretty sure that we were going to stop halfway through because of a downpour, but that luckily didn’t happen. The performance started off freezing and I had to steal Peter [Kope]‘s athletic jacket.
I wasn’t that nervous for this show, even though I thought I would be. We had a great turnout, there were lots of people. Apparently there was an agreement among the dancers not to go in the water, which I did not know about…and then we ended up in the water. I’m honestly surprised that the water only happened during the last layer. But I’m kind of glad it did, it was a nice finish for the whole piece. Ashley [Williams] actually splashed some of the fountain water into my mouth. It does not taste particularly good, I would not suggest drinking it.
This was a lot of fun. I let loose with them more than I have in the rehearsals and the dress rehearsals. I was more of myself. I’m still trying to figure out what my limits are with my improv and how far I can go.
As the show was ending, I couldn’t help noticing how beautiful the light was as the sun was setting on the art and on the Cathedral of Learning. I was standing with the view of the sculpture and that….and it was just a great show.
